Use Open Standards, Open Data, Open Source, and Open Innovation

Collaboration can really benefit projects in finding new information that was not previously available as well as getting different perspectives on a topic. Using open-source material can prevent unnecessary work and resource usage while still providing meaningful results. Money and time that would otherwise be wasted on researching already researched fields can instead be used elsewhere when using open source information resulting in maximizing resource usage.
